A few months back, we wrapped up a roofing project for a family in Edisto that we were really proud of. But what happened next made it even more rewarding, for us and the homeowners. After completing the job, we assisted the homeowners in connecting with a third-party evaluator certified by the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS). His role was to inspect our work and determine whether the roof met the rigorous standards required to be recognized as a FORTIFIED Roof™.

The evaluator reviewed our project documentation, inspected the home in person, and submitted a detailed report to IBHS. This week, we received the great news: the roof officially earned its FORTIFIED designation certificate.

What Is a FORTIFIED Roof™?

If you’re unfamiliar with the IBHS FORTIFIED program, a FORTIFIED Roof™ is built or upgraded using science-backed standards to help homes withstand severe weather, including high winds, heavy rain, and hurricanes. It involves reinforced installation techniques, stronger materials, and strict inspection processes. And it’s not just peace of mind, it can lead to insurance discounts, increased property value, and better long-term durability for your home.

Why This Matters for You

South Carolina homeowners, especially in coastal or storm-prone areas, always look for ways to make their homes more resilient. And FORTIFIED isn’t just for new builds. Whether re-roofing or upgrading an existing structure, Sea Island Residential can help you take the extra step to FORTIFIED. In this Edisto project, our team followed all IBHS guidelines from the start, and it paid off.

We handled the roofing install, organized the evaluation, and supported the customers through the certification process. The result is a tougher, smarter, storm-ready roof now officially recognized as meeting the FORTIFIED standard.
